Event Details

Join our captain Freddy Simon of Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, at the Beech Activity Center for a winter's evening Cruise of the Great Lakes. We will set sail from the harbor at Grand Marais, Minnesota on the north shore of Lake Superior, heading toward the original Cowtown, the Port of Chicago on Lake Michigan. Next we will navigate the Straits of Mackinac for a stop at Lake Huron's Mackinac Island. Our final port of call will be Niagara Falls on Lake Erie. The foods featured on our cruise span the epicurean history of the Great Lakes area. From the Native American fare of the region's earliest inhabitants to the varied ethnic cuisines of European immigrants, the Great Lakes is truly a melting pot of cultures.

Catholic Charities Harbor House and St. Anthony Family Shelter

This year’s event benefits the two efficiently run and highly respected Catholic Charities shelter programs, both working every day to stabilize families in crisis.  The one thing both Harbor House and St. Anthony Family Shelter have in common is that they seek to combat poverty at its roots.  One hundred percent of families who utilize Catholic Charities direct shelter services live in poverty.  What makes these two social service operations unique is how they not only work to provide basic needs to homeless families and women and children experiencing domestic violence, but how they do even more by preserving and providing dignity for these families in crisis.  Both programs provide plans of support and compassion, focused on long-term concerns which seek to help families realize a new life; one with a stable home and one free of the fear of violence, so that all families served through Catholic Charities shelters can envision a future full of abundant life and love.
